Stratstone: All Finished + Overall Experience

All Finished

So it's a been a long day of printing, shopping, cutting, sticking, and driving - but we've done it!

Today we made our outcomes into physical printed banners - Joe has been in the print dungeon all morning and i've been running around town looking for foam double sided tape, but I think we've worked really well as a team. The day has been quite straight forward, which was really relieving as the banners needed to be set up for tomorrow. There was a slight hiccup when the roll of banner material ran out half way through printing (number 3) but apart from that it's been fine. And the outcomes look really effective, especially with them being huge! I've never had work printed as big as this before so it was amazing to see!

Our final printed outcomes hung up in the studio

Straight after this picture was taken we went down to Stratstone to set them up in shop on the banner stands that they'd given us. When we got there we found out that our banners wouldn't be going behind a car however, and that they were going behind a campfire set they'd created in the shop:

The final Outcomes set up in the shop, ready for the launch.

Not going to lie, but considering we thought our images were being used to display a car, we were a bit disheartened to see that it was going behind this campfire thing - it just looked a bit naff. However the images are now stratstone's to do with what they wish and it's hopefully still good publicity!

Overall Experience

So this project has been pretty stressful in terms of short deadlines and not having the best communication with the client - however working with Joe has been so good, as he's been really useful in terms creative skill but also technical (finding a way to build the banner), and would deffo enjoy working with him again! I feel like we were both able to split the work load easily and simply and both put our all into making this work! I think that the actual images themselves were really effective, however I feel like we may have gone too 'Art student' on them, when perhaps we should've made something a bit more subtle and less conceptual? I feel that the banners were literally just being used for decoration in the shop, when we kinda created full on illustrations.

In terms of stratstone, they were a nice company to work for and very generous with their payments (which we should get soon) but as stated previously, we were slightly disheartened with the final outcome's physical appearance behind the campfire set. I've never properly worked commercially with a client before so I'm glad I've had this experience, which can go on my CV. Also this brief definitely relates to designing for a commercial use so has been a useful project for me in terms of answering my rationale for EP.
